Please review the Medication Policy and forms needed for medication at school. We do this by providing screenings and referrals, administering medications and treatments, providing first aid, providing health counseling and education, and supporting students to acquire self-management skills.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Clinic hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday while school is in session. I will be happy to answer any questions.<\/span><\/p><article><p>Nut-Free Classroom Information:<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www-pia.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Nut-Awareness-Statement.pdf\">Nut-Awareness-Statement<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www-pia.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/peanut-freesnacks.pdf\">Peanut-free Snacks<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www-pia.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/snacklist.pdf\">Snack list<\/a><\/p><p><strong>FAQs:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>My child feels sick,\u00a0<em>should he\/she stay home<\/em>?<\/strong>\u00a0When a child is sick and needs to stay home, parents should contact the school and describe the illness and symptoms.\u00a0 If a medical provider makes a specific diagnosis (such as strep throat, conjunctivitis or chicken pox), let school staff know.<\/p><p>Deciding when to keep your child home from school can be difficult.\u00a0 Here are some guidelines when a child should stay home:<\/p><ul><li>Fever greater than 100.4 degrees<\/li><li>Chills<\/li><li>General tiredness or not feeling good<\/li><li>Frequent congested (wet) or croup-sounding cough<\/li><li>Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose<\/li><li>Vomiting (even just once)<\/li><li>Diarrhea<\/li><li>Stomach pain that is accompanied by repeated vomiting or diarrhea.\u00a0 Note:\u00a0 if your child complains of stomach pain for several days, you should call your doctor for advice.<\/li><li>Symptoms of cold or flu<\/li><\/ul><p>The two biggest factors when deciding whether a child can attend school is whether he or she is well enough to take part in activities and whether the child\u2019s condition will require more attention from teachers or staff than is possible.<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www-pia.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/clinic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/08\/ILLNESS-GUIDELINES-2025-26-rEV.pdf\">ILLNESS-GUIDELINES 2025-26\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><strong>What if my child needs to take<em>\u00a0medication during school hours<\/em>?<\/strong> A <a href=\"https:\/\/www-pia.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/clinic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/Authorization-to-Assist-in-the-Administration-of-Medication-Treatment.pdf\">Authorization-to-Assist-in-the-Administration-of-Medication-Treatment<\/a>\u00a0will need to be signed by the parent\/guardian and completed by your doctor for <strong>ANY<\/strong>\u00a0medication. Just a gentle reminder about medications in Academies, it\u2019s not the same as when we went to school. Over the counter medications (OTC) include: Chap-stick, Sunscreen, Cough drops, Antacids, medicated lotions, Tylenol, Benadryl, Motrin etc. These meds can be kept in the clinic with a\u00a0<em>completed<\/em>\u00a0Medication Administration Form. Academy students are\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong> allowed to keep any OTC or RX medications in their possession, except for inhalers. Please remember that the school does not keep stock medications. Please contact me so we can work out a plan together. We have forms available for the six most common conditions that need to be filled out by you and your child\u2019s doctor. If you use one of these forms you do not need to complete a Medication Authorization Form as well. The Medical Management Plans include medication authorization.
